Covid-19 Day of Reflection
What the Day of Reflection is
The National Day of Reflection is a moment to pause, remember, and acknowledge the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on communities across Wales and the UK. It is also an opportunity to recognise the quiet, consistent work that helped communities through that time, particularly the efforts of Community and Town councils, clerks, councillors, and local volunteers who supported residents in countless practical and compassionate ways.
A Message from One Voice Wales
“On the National Day of Reflection, One Voice Wales extends its sincere thanks to Community and Town Councils, clerks, councillors and volunteers across Wales. Your steady presence, local leadership and care for your communities; often behind the scenes and under difficult circumstances; made a real difference. This day offers a moment to recognise that shared effort and to say thank you.”
Lyn Cadwallader
Chief Executive, One Voice Wales
Some suggestions for how your Council can mark the day

Councils’ reflections
”During the pandemic, Towyn and Kinmel Bay Town Council began supporting the local Church Food Bank through regular food donations in response to the immediate and growing needs within the community. This support helped ensure that vulnerable residents and families had access to essential food supplies at a time when many were experiencing isolation, financial hardship, and uncertainty”. Kath Evans, Deputy Town Clerk Towyn and Kinmel Bay Town Council
”We launched the Totally Mold voucher scheme to support independent businesses, alongside online and socially distanced community events, including Historic Mold talks, competitions and festive visits from Father Christmas and the Easter Bunny. We are proud of the creative volunteer network and community engagement that kept residents connected, celebrated local achievements and support our town during a challenging time”. Jo Lane, Town Clerk and Finance Officer Mold Town Council
”Pencoed Town Council ensured that residents had food. we worked with a local shopkeeper and our council did 90 deliveries a week.. Our Mayor put together food parcels from food donated by her neighbours and residents and distributed to local families. we worked to ensure everyone had food or help if they needed it. We were proud how the community pulled together”. Cllr Tracey Lyddon, Pencoed Town Council.
